Medical TV drama series has donated its gloves and gowns to first responders.

The coronavirus pandemic has seen demand for personal protective equipment (PPE) surge and the US drama has handed over its supply to those who urgently need them.

The demand for PPE extends beyond medical workers – Milwaukee Fire department has recently been enlisted to help answer 911 calls from Covid-19 patients, while 10 San Jose firefighters have tested positive for the virus, probably because their job necessitates face-to-face contact.

In a statement, executive producer of Krista Vernoff said: “At [a spinoff], we were lucky enough to have about 300 of the coveted N95 masks which we donated to our local fire station.

“At , we have a backstock of gowns and gloves which we are donating as well.

“We are all overwhelmed with gratitude for our healthcare workers during this incredibly difficult time, and in addition to these donations, we are doing our part to help them by staying home.”

also donated its PPE to Atlanta’s Grady Memorial Hospital.

Dr Karen Law, a rheumatologist at the hospital thanked the show for its ‘incredibly generous donation’ in a post on Instagram.
