It’s always cool when you know the real-world locations that games are set in – or based on – because it gives you the chance to learn more about them via Google or, depending on distance, visit those places yourself. I mean, could you honestly visit certain areas of Rome or Paris without wanting to scale buildings and rush across rooftops, Assassin’s Creed style?

But these locations can be found in unexpected places too, as Reddit user u/lukegiant found out when he returned from a trip to Chernobyl and dropped in for a quick game. One of the photos he’d taken of a pool on his visit to the abandoned site was almost identical to a location within the battle royale, including various details outside of the building.

It’s an incredibly cool find, and a testament to the detail and accuracy that’s present in the game – even if that accuracy is going to be completely missed by most players. I mean, Chernobyl is clearly not your usual holiday destination. The comparison above shows the similarities, even down to the placement and structure of the diving platform and the angle at the top of the window behind it. The elevated walkway on the right is also present in both images, and the overall colours are largely the same too.

Perhaps it’s not so surprising, considering had levels set in a fictional version of Chernobyl. And does borrow areas and maps from other Call of Duty games – the dive pool itself is part of the Bloc multiplayer map, from the original . If you want to take a look at the pool in , it can be found on the north-west side of the map in Storage Town, just south of the airport.

We also reported last week that Infinity Ward has been planning on adding more squad sizes to the battle royale and it seems they’ve kicked things off already by adding a solos mode. Presumably, other squad sizes will be made available in the coming weeks.
