Twitch Streamer Apologises After Insensitive Coronavirus Comments

You’re probably spending a lot more time at home right now, due to the recent developments relating to the coronavirus (COVID-19). And if you find yourself at a loose end, you might be tempted to tune into Twitch to watch one of your favourite streamers.

But if you’re a fan of Kaceytron, that won’t be possible right now. She’s been indefinitely suspended from the platform, following a comment that she made about the coronavirus on stream last week.

Kacey “Kaceytron” Caviness was talking on a stream hosted by Rajj Patel (thanks, PC Gamer) when she was asked whether or not she would kiss someone with coronavirus. Instead of saying “no” or some variation thereof, she decided to go with the following statement:

“Yes, and we would leave quarantine and we would try to spread it as much as possible because the world would be a better place without old and poor people.”

Now, there are jokes, and there are jokes. This one really isn’t funny, especially when she’s singling out specific groups of people. Twitch clearly doesn’t think it’s a great look for one of its streamers either, and has since issued her an “indefinite suspension”, the news of which she shared on Twitter earlier this week. The reason cited is “Engaging in hateful conduct and threats of violence against a person or group of people.”

According to Twitch, an indefinite suspension is “reserved for the most serious offences” and also states that there is “no opportunity to appeal”. Kaceytron has since offered an apology via Twitter.

Of course, Kaceytron isn’t the first streamer to mess up during a broadcast. Earlier this month, Call of Duty pro player Carl Reimer accidentally fired a gun during one of his streams, resulting in an indefinite suspension and losing him his place on SoaR Gaming’s roster.

EA’s New ‘Rocket Arena’ Is More Than Another Battle Royale

BY THEREDNOW STAFF Y’know when games get revealed and they don’t really do it for you, at the first time of asking? I definitely got the impression that, after its spot on this year’s EA Play presentation, that has firmly fallen into that category. What was shown off covered some key bases: this is a […]
