'Call Of Duty: Warzone' Breaks Incredible Player Record In Ten Days
is proof, if any were needed, that dropping a free-to-play game attached to one of the most popular franchises on the planet during a period of global self-isolation can result in some numbers. The battle royale achieved an incredible six million players in its first 24 hours, and 15 million in its first four days.
Activision has now confirmed that number has . Just ten days after its March 10th release, the publisher revealed that had reached an eye-watering 30 million players. To put this into perspective, EA’s free-to-play was considered a monstrous hit when it pulled in one million players in its first eight hours, and 50 million in a month.
It remains to be seen whether this 30 million milestone is a peak for or whether it can pass 50 million in under a month – but I wouldn’t bet against it. After all, we have to consider the exceptional time we’re currently living in, don’t we? Millions upon millions of people around the world are being told to stay indoors, and here Activision is with a free-to-play Call Of Duty. It could only ever have ended in stonks.
Regardless of current events, was surely always destined to be a major success for Activision. 2019’s reboot has been the most-played and well-liked Call Of Duty game in years, after all. Dropping a free-to-play battle royale while fans everywhere are still obsessed with the most recent title? That’s an inspired move. I don’t see going anywhere for a long old while.
Case in point, Infinity Ward just recently introduced a solos mode to the 150-player battle royale. There are also plans to introduce four and five-player squads, and increase the number of players per match to a cool 200. We don’t know exactly when these features are coming, but Activision will doubtless want to keep this momentum going.
Beyond that, Activision revealed in a press release just last week that the teams at Infinity Ward and Raven Software have a butt-load of plans for . It couldn’t get into specifics, but it sounds like we’ll be getting plenty of new content and live events in the coming months. Some kind of zombie event around Halloween is a given, no?
