Ryan Reynolds In Talks To Lead Live-Action 'Dragon's Lair' Adaptation

Ryan Reynolds is no stranger to video game movies (think ) and it seems that the actor is currently in talks to star as Dirk the Daring in Netflix’s latest adaptation, based on the ’80’s arcade classic, .

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix has been “in negotiations” for almost a year to get hold of the rights to produce the movie and has now finally closed the deal. As a result, Reynolds is currently in talks with Netflix to star in and produce the live-action movie adaptation. The LEGO Movie writers Dan and Kevin Hageman will work on the script.

Assuming “the talks” with Netflix go smoothly, Reynolds will produce via his production company, Maximum Effort, alongside others which include ‘s Roy Lee, Trevor Engelson, Gary Goldman, and Jon Pomeroy. And perhaps most notably, creator, Don Bluth is reportedly also joining the production team.

was popular in the arcade scene in the early ’80s. Released in 1983, the graphics were markedly better than most other games at the time and followed the story of a knight called Dirk the Daring as he attempted to rescue a princess from Singe the dragon and a wizard called Mordroc.

It would be tempting to assume that Netflix is clearly trying to cash in on the popularity and success that its video game adaptations seem to be enjoying recently. But it has apparently been negotiating the rights on this movie for nearly a year – way before the massively popular The Witcher series was released at the end of last year.

It’s fair to say that we’re going to have to wait a while before we can give our verdict on the movie. No indication of a planned release date has been given, though it’s probably fair to say we’ll need to wait until at least 2021.
