Club Penguin Is Back And 6 Million Users Have Already Signed Up
Cult childhood classic Club Penguin is back for another round after its creators relaunched the online multiplayer game – just in time to entertain all those currently stuck in lockdown.
And it’s proven to be a very smart move indeed, as more than six million users have already signed up, with the Twitter account for the game saying on 27 March: “Thank you all for helping us achieve this.”
For the uninitiated, Club Penguin was a hugely popular social network for kids owned by Disney, which centred on a wintry virtual world containing a range of games and activities, in which players used cartoon penguin avatars to interact within the community.
It launched back in 2005, but was sadly discontinued in March 2017.
Fast forward to February 2020, when it was announced that the game would be ‘entering a new era’, promising ‘lots of amazing new features and custom acitivities’.

Teasing gamers, a tweet said: “We have updated our website! We are preparing for the new era Club Penguin Online is about to enter.”
Hinting that there’s more to come yet, it added: “And the website transformation is just the beginning”
One excited fan tweeted: “New era lets gooooo!”
Another commented: “Looking forward to the new era! It’s going to be epic!”
A third simply wrote: “Epic.”
An update from Club Penguin earlier this month said the team had noticed a ‘huge increase’ in users ever since governments introduced quarantine measures to help stop the spread of coronavirus.
A tweet said: “We hope you’re all staying safe during this coronavirus situation. Lately we’ve seen a huge increase in user activity ever since governments have been quarantining people.
“We’re happy that we can still connect and make thousands of people happy during these hard time.”
