An Australian man has been very candid about what he used his $750 one-off payment from the government on.

Six and a half million Australians were given the money as part of a $17.6 billion stimulus package to keep the economy going during the coronavirus pandemic.

This unnamed man was asked by a passerby of what he was intending on doing with it and he didn’t hold back.

“I’ve just spent my stimulus money, I’ve got eight slabs in there and that should last me about eight days,” he said in a video, shared by Sydney Crime News on Facebook.

“I’m as happy as a pig in mud.”

It seems like loads of people who viewed the video were happy with the man’s decision.

One person said: “I work 28 days a month and pay mammoth amounts of tax and this makes me happy…good on him.”

Another added: “That’s exactly what it was intended for, spend it on taxable items, keep our economy afloat.”

A third wrote: “That bloke doesn’t have a care in the world!! Half his luck, good on him!”

There were a few viewers who thought the money could have been spent on something else, however (if my calculations are correct), he should still have a decent chunk of change left over.

A 30-pack of VB cans will usually set you back around $55; so eight will cost you roughly $440. So this bloke has lots more money to plunge into his local economy and keep it ticking along during the pandemic.

People who will be eligible for the $750 include social security, veteran and other income support recipients as well as eligible concession card holders.

That means pensioners, people with commonwealth seniors health cards, people on family tax benefits, as well as those on the Jobseeker (Newstart) and Youth Allowance payments will also get the handout.

Anyone who was in that category on March 12 will get the money.

It will be transferred directly into the account of most recipients, meaning you don’t have to do anything for the payment to arrive. Some might have to give the government a bit more information to qualify.

The first batch of payments were doled out on March 31, however, not everyone got it at the same time.

Treasury’s website estimates ‘over 90 per cent of payments will be made by mid-April 2020’. So, if it hasn’t landed in your account today, then you’ll just have to wait for it a little longer.
