'The Last Of Us Part 2' Is Revenge Story Against Homophobic Cult, Says Rumour
We still don’t know what exactly to expect when launches… whenever the hell it’s supposed to launch. Naughty Dog recently pushed the post-apocalyptic sequel back from its May 29th release date to an indefinite window in light of current global events, meaning its plot will likely remain shrouded in mystery for a while yet.
However, if recent reports are to be believed, it looks like we now have some idea of the journey Joel and Ellie will be facing when they return – and it’s pretty darn heavy. This news comes a since-deleted post on 4Chan (via Pink News) shared by a supposed “immediate family member” of someone at Naughty Dog, so please do take it with a pinch of salt.
Oh, and even though we can’t say for sure whether there’s any truth to this report, it should go without saying that you need to stop reading now if you don’t want to risk having the game spoiled for you.

According to this alleged plot leak, features a burgeoning romance between Ellie and Dina, which we’ve already seen in a couple of the game’s trailers now. As we also suspected, it seems that this romance is cut short after an attack from a religious homophobic cult who called themselves the Seraphites.
The Seraphites view this relationship as sinful, and subsequently murder Dina, which ignites Ellie’s quest for revenge. Again, this lines up with everything we’ve seen of the game so far. Remember the first thing we heard Ellie say in that first reveal trailer? “I’m gonna find, and I’m gonna kill, every last one of them.” I guess now we know who “them” is.
What might surprise you, however, is that Ellie’s run in with this cult will also apparently lead to the death of Joel. I’m going to choose to believe this, but I guess we’ll have to wait and see. wasn’t exactly a cheery game, so I suppose we should brace for maximum misery.

The post also appears to confirm a few things about Ellie that we’ll be learning throughout the upcoming game. One of the women seen in an early trailer featuring the cult is actually Ellie’s mum. It also sounds like Ellie’s dad was once a member of the cult, but was murdered for having a relationship outside of the group.
Again, these are literally all things that people have long speculated on after having seen previous trailers. This “leak” could quite easily be educated guesswork, and nothing more. We know Ellie is incredibly angry about something, we know there’s a cult, and we know that someone close to Ellie is going to die. Now we just need to wait and see how it all fits together.
