A live-action movie adaptation of the popular manga series is said to be in development by Sony Pictures, according to a report from Variety. Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner will write it and Avi Arad and Ari Arad of Arad Productions will be producing.

was created by Japanese artist ONE as a webcomic back in 2009. It was then published in the magazine Shueisha’s Young Jump Next in 2012. An English edition was published by VIZ Media in 2015 and made bestsellers lists as well as being nominated for several awards. Because of its success, it has already been adapted into an anime series and has it’s own video game in the form of

follows the story of Saitama, a man with super-human strength who can defeat any opponent with a single punch. But he becomes bored with the lack of challenges available to him and seeks to find a worthy opponent in a fight against evil.

And if you’re concerned about the credentials of those working on the project, you needn’t be. Writers Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner are known for their work on the scripts for both and Arad Productions, meanwhile, is known for producing , , and the movies.

There’s no news yet on who will be directing the movie or any of the cast members but it should only be a matter of time before we start hearing more details on the adaptation.

In somewhat related news, it seems that filming for the upcoming Uncharted movie was put on hold on Day One of shooting because of the coronavirus lockdown. Tom Holland revealed that he and his fellow actors and crew members were sent home in an interview with Jimmy Kimmel.

“I was in Berlin making a film called with Mark Wahlberg,” says Holland in the interview, “And we were all ready to go and we went to set for Day One shooting and then we got shut down and we all got sent home.”
