Aussies are encouraged to stand in their drive way, on their verandahs, at their front gates or from their windows to show their solidarity with one another.

People can light candles, listen to the service on their phone and those who can play the bugle should bust out The Last Post at the right time.

The Australian War Memorial will be holding a Dawn Service, which will be attended by Australian Defence Force personnel, the Prime Minister, Opposition Leader and Governor-General.

The official ceremony will be held at 5:30am, and people can start their own #LightUpTheDawn service from then or closer to 6am.

You’ll be able to live stream the service from the Australian War Memorial so that you can hear the speeches, Ode, the Last Post, the Minute’s Silence and Reveille at the right time.

Veterans Affairs Minister Darren Chester admits that it’s not the usual Anzac Day that we’re used to, however it doesn’t mean we can’t take time out of our day to pause and reflect on the sacrifice that Australians and New Zealanders made in war, conflict and peacekeeping operations.

“I’ll be spending Anzac Day at home, watching the broadcast of the service from the Australian War Memorial and spending time with my family,” Mr Chester said.

“I will also support the RSL call to ‘light up the dawn’ and think about the resilience and determination of previous generations who overcame enormous hardship.”

“At its heart, Anzac Day is about personally reflecting on the service and sacrifice of Australian service men and women. I will commemorate Anzac Day at home with my own gunfire breakfast and make a few phone calls to some mates who have served our nation.”

If you don’t catch the morning service, there will be a special Anzac Day event at Sydney’s Hyde Park Anzac Memorial on the ABC from 10am.

From 11:30am, there will be a quiet moment of reflection which will again include the Ode, the Last Post and a minute’s silence.
