According to AFP, a representative claimed it would take ‘also more careful protection and public tidiness actions’ prior to saying that all clients ought to ‘surf shops in an orderly as well as means’.
The news outlet went on to claim that the woman as well as whoever recorded the clip can encounter a criminal cost for their actions and may even be looking at a prison sentence of up to 3 years for ‘spreading out salacious products’.
No one seems to notice what she’s getting up to – but the clip has since been shared online and has since come to the attention of IKEA.
The company has released a statement on its Chinese social media channels condemning the woman’s actions, adding that the matter has been handed over to the police.
The Swedish company did not say which store the incident took place at, however rumours on social media claim it was the Tianhe District branch.
In a statement, the company said: “IKEA China is taking the matter very seriously. We oppose and condemn these actions and have reported the incident to the police.
“IKEA is committed to providing home inspiration for the public. We will increase security and cleaning in order to create a safe, comfortable and healthy shopping experience and environment.”
According to AFP, a spokesperson said it would take ‘even more careful security and public cleanliness measures’ before saying that all customers should ‘browse stores in an orderly and civilised way’.
Chinese government owned newspaper Global Times has said the clip was shared widely on social media before it could be censored.
The news outlet went on to say that the woman and whoever filmed the clip could face a criminal charge for their actions and might even be looking at a prison sentence of up to three years for ‘spreading obscene materials’.
Reports also said that the social media platforms through which the video was shared could also expect to be met with scrutiny from officials for not filtering the content.
According to reports the clip was filmed on 9 May, however, this has not been confirmed by IKEA China.
