With the release of comes the chance for the likes of Tony Hawk, Andrew Reynolds, and Chad Muska to see themselves as never before. Yes, these guys have been in many (or all) of the games over the years, but it’s clear that the upcoming remaster is the best-looking entry in the franchise to date.

Of course, it’s been over two decades since the first two games were released. While the cast of Pro Skater all still look great today, they don’t look how they used to. When Activision released the first trailer last week, a number of fans noticed that the in-game versions Tony and the gang all looked a little older than they did back in 1999.

Kotaku has since confirmed with an Activision rep that yes, because every skater was scanned in again for the remaster, they aren’t the youthful band of kickflippers they used to be. That’s obviously not a bad thing. In fact, I think it’s brilliant that I’ll be able to skate around as a 52-year-old version of Tony Hawk. My only hope is that when they remaster these remasters, we get to play as a 78-year-old version of Tony.

For further context, here’s a run-down of how old some of the other Pro Skaters are now. Chad Muska turns 43 this week. Andrew Reynolds is turning 42 in June. Steve Caballero is 55. Rodney Mullen is 53. Elissa Steamer is 44. Let me be clear: I’m not saying any of these people are , but it would be a rare and wonderful thing to see anyone creeping up on 60 pull off a 900.

But then, that’s the magic of video games. and its sequel have been influential and beloved enough for so long that the skaters who were in it back in the day can actually show up in the remaster looking older and wiser. I can’t help but see that as wonderful.

In other news, we recently learned that most of the songs from the original games will be back just as you remember them. Unfortunately, what with the games being 20 years old, not every track made it back into the remaster. Five classic songs will be missing from the game when it arrives in September. But these days you can literally play Spotify over whatever game you’re enjoying… so who really cares?
