So, the new packs consist of 24 or 32 different colours that are intended at representing more than 40 of the world’s skin tones.
Casale has actually put his substantial knowledge right into ‘developing inclusive structure shades’ to create the Colours of the World box.
“Growing up, I keep in mind mixing the pink as well as dark brownish pastels to try and also make my shade, so I was thrilled when Crayola asked for my help to produce the Colours of the World pastels,”
If you’re interested, the purpose is to have the crayons prepared for the back-to-school period starting in July, and also you can pre-order them from Crayola’s website.
So, the new packs include 24 or 32 different colours that are aimed at representing more than 40 of the world’s skin tones.
Still not sure how exactly that works, but there is a diagram that helps, at least.
The colours will range from tones like medium almond, all the way through to extra deep golden. The box also features a gradient skin tone label, as well as a reference panel for the colours on the side of the box, and the names written in French, Spanish, and English to further include people.
Well, as long as they speak one of those languages, anyway.
Crayola’s CEO Rich Wuerthele said: “With the world growing more diverse than ever before, Crayola hopes our new Colours of the World crayons will increase representation and foster a greater sense of belonging and acceptance,
“We want the new Colours of the World crayons to advance inclusion within creativity and impact how kids express themselves.”
In their statement, they also said that they’d used ‘rigorous consumer testing’ and a partnership with MOB Beauty’s CEO Victor Casale, who has more than 30 years of experience ‘in creating foundation colours for global skin tones.’
Casale has put his significant expertise into ‘developing inclusive foundation shades’ to create the Colours of the World box.
He said: “I have spent my life trying to create truly global shade palettes because I know what it’s like to be with a person who has finally found their exact match,”
He added: “They feel included and recognised, and I am hoping every child who uses these crayons and finds their shade will have that feeling.”
