Last month, a male was rescued by police helicopter in the Pyrenees chain of mountains after he tried to walk from France to Spain, regardless of stringent lockdown measures being in location at the time.

In a statement, the French Pyrenees High Mountain Police claimed: “Looks like the [lockdown] message really did not make it through properly.

“We took part in a rescue with a helicopter from Perpignan in order to go get a tired, really cool and lost private off the elevations above Le Perthus.

“This young man, left Perpignan by cars and truck, was returned by the control terminals between France and Spain when he wished to go to Le Jonquera.

“He after that decided to take a hiking path, hoping to go across the boundary through the mountain.

“He came under a creek, ventured out again, got shed and after that wound up contacting hill rescue with an SOS using his phone.”
