Rare footage has resurfaced showing Mike Tyson and Tupac Shakur embracing shortly before the rapper was shot dead in Las Vegas:
The video shows Tyson moments after his victory over Bruce Seldon at the MGM Grand Arena on 7 September back in 1996.
On that night, Iron Mike was crowned the WBA heavyweight champion and celebrated with Tupac in the immediate aftermath.
The pals were seen hugging with Suge Knight, Death Row Records CEO, also in tow. Hours afterwards Shakur was shot and killed.
Tupac was hit with multiple gunshots at the intersection of East Flamingo Road and Koval Lane in front of the Maxim Hotel in Las Vegas.
Tyson has opened up in the past about his thoughts on Tupac’s death, claiming that he believes it was ‘planned in advance’.
Speaking to Fat Joe, he said: “I never said this, but all that stuff was planned in advance… I believe that the fight was the opportunity for it to happen.”
He went on: “I just believe that was the perfect opportunity for something like that to happen… Everybody knew everybody was going to be there. And the people that wasn’t there, wasn’t there because they knew who was going to be there.
“This is the real. Tupac was just a force. He was just an uncontrolled force and that was the problem. He was powerful and he just – no one could control him.”
Tupac was shot when the car he was travelling in stopped at a red light. He was struck by four .40 calibre rounds fired with two hitting his chest, one in the arm and the other in the thigh. The rapper passed away from his wounds six days later.
Since his death there have been many conspiracy theories about him still being alive but Mike Dorsey, an investigative filmmaker, isn’t convinced. He worked on the show and has said that police in Las Vegas need to ‘lay the ghost of Tupac’ to rest and close the case.
He said: “Tupac is dead. Let’s get that straight. All the conspiracy theories are wrong and this ongoing conjecture can simply be ended by the Metro Police finally acknowledging all the evidence that is there.”
