In these strange new times of social distancing and self-isolation, it seems as if we’re having to be more creative than ever to find ways of amusing ourselves.

With that in mind, a couple of guys decided to try to replicate one of the iconic promotional shots from zombie-filled TV series The Walking Dead.

Hell, when else are you going to find a highway that leads into a major American city completely deserted? You’ve gotta make the most of these opportunities.

Now, ordinarily the main arterial roads into Atlanta would be absolutely crammed with bumper-to-bumper traffic of a morning.

However, seeing that it wasn’t, a Twitter user calling himself ‘The Mad Engineer’ decided to get his pal to try to recreate a shot in which Rick Grimes – one of the characters from the hit AMC show – rides a horse down the middle of the highway.

You might remember it, have a look for yourself.

Obviously, they didn’t actually ride a horse down there, that would be silly. They did manage to capture the bleak deserted highway pretty well though, as The Mad Engineer explained.

He tweeted: “So I asked my old college mate, that lives in Atlanta, to try and reproduce this iconic promo photo from s1.

“With there being no Atlanta traffic due to the pandemic, he went to Jackson St Bridge and took this for me today.

“Creepy.”

Creepy, indeed. That’s a fair assessment.

Anyway, if you don’t think it’s a bit too real for the times that we live in, you’ll be pleased to learn that The Walking Dead is currently in the middle of the tenth season of the show.

It started back in 2010 as an adaptation of a comic book series created by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore and Charlie Adlard.

It follows the aforementioned Grimes after he awakens from a coma to discover that much of the world’s population has been transformed into mindless zombies.

He then has to try to avoid being eaten by them, but also battle to stay alive among the various warring factions of humans that remain uninfected in post-apocalyptic America.

To be fair, while it might not seem like the most appealing thing to watch whilst you shack up at home for the foreseeable future, it has proven to be one of the world’s most popular shows of recent times.

Despite critical and fan opinion declining of late, it has garnered many awards, decent reviews, and – now – an homage to one of the original promotional images.
