'Call Of Duty: Warzone' Update Adds A Controversial 'Modern Warfare' Weapon
Activision has detailed a fresh batch of content for the latest update, which is expected later on today. It’s been confirmed that the popular free-to-play battle royale will be getting a few new weapons for players to add to their arsenal, with no less than four guns making their way to the game.
As soon as the new update is live, players will be able to get their hands on the 725 shotgun, MK2 Carbine .50 GS, and EBR-14. Activision explained in a blog post that all four weapons can be found dotted around the game’s massive Verdansk map in both Common and Uncommon rarities.
Players will also be able to add any of the four guns to your custom loadout, which can be picked up in-game by purchasing a loadout drop or looting a dropped loadout crate on the map. I mean, I’m assuming you know the drill. Over 30 million players have dropped into at this point, so I’d bet that you’re one of them if you’re reading this article.

While it’s great to see the development teams at Infinity Ward and Raven Software bringing new content to the game as promised, one of the new weapons has a controversial history. Those of you who picked up when it launched in October last year will remember the saga of the 725 shotgun, arguably one of the most divisive and troubling weapons in Call Of Duty history.
For those who weren’t on the game back then and might have missed it, the double-barreled 725 shotgun was a monstrously overpowered weapon thanks to an exploit that some of the more industrious players discovered. With just a few minor tweaks, players were able to transform what was supposed to be a high-risk close range weapon into a disgustingly strong sniper rifle.

Naturally, Infinity Ward swiftly responded to calls for the shotgun to be nerfed… but it took a few updates before the 725 was truly taken down a peg or two. Even now, there are some players who would doubtless rather see it wiped from the game completely. Newcomers needn’t worry too much about its inclusion in though – it really isn’t anywhere close to the monster it used to be.
At least, that’s unless someone manages to find a whole new way to exploit the weapon and teach the community to hate it all over again. I’m sure it won’t come to that though. Probably.
