2020 BAFTA Games Awards: All The Winners Rounded Up
Even a country-wide lockdown couldn’t stop the glitz and glamour of the annual BAFTA Game Awards. The industry event went ahead via livestream last night, in a much-needed evening of celebration and appreciation for all the incredible games that released last year. There were some well-deserved wins – as well as a few surprising losses.
Let’s start with the big one. On a personal level, I’m genuinely thrilled that Mobius Digital’s sublime outer space exploration adventure won the coveted Best Game award last night. It was my favourite game of 2019 by some distance, and I don’t think nearly enough people have played it yet. Hopefully this win can go some way towards rectifying that.
What’s even more impressive is the company that managed to beat off. and were all up for the top spot. All would have been thoroughly deserving of the award of course, and each one is well worth checking out if you haven’t already.
Despite both being up for an amazing 11 nominations earlier this year, Remedy’s and Kojima’s divisive ended up going home with one award apiece. The latter nabbed the prize for Technical Achievement, while the former won Performer In A Supporting Role, courtesy of Martti Suosalo.
In fact it was a huge night for indie games in the end. won Original Property and Game Design in addition to Best Game, while took Music, Narrative, and Debut Game. They were the only games to get more than one award each, which is incredible given the stiff competition.
