The Season 3 patch for and has arrived, bringing with it the exciting addition of new maps, modes, and Operators. But the latest patch also addresses a number of glitches and balance issues with the popular shooter, including a change to one weapon blueprint that was so badly broken it kicked off an entire pay-to-win conspiracy theory among fans.

Earlier this week, a number of players felt like they’d been given reason to believe that Activision had been implementing pay-to-win mechanics into the battle royale without telling anyone. It all started when one fan discovered a weapon blueprint, The Line Breaker, did a ridiculous amount of damage compared to the standard EBR-14 it was based on.

You can take a look at the video evidence below. It wasn’t hard to see why some were crying out “pay-to-win”, especially when weapon blueprints rarely give this much of an edge in battle, if any.

There’s also the fact that The Line Breaker was hidden up in the highest tiers of the Battle Pass, making its advantageous damage look all the more suspicious… especially to those who’ve been burned by Activision and Call Of Duty titles in the past .

The good news is that the conspiracy seems to be over. As many suggested, the overwhelming damage output afforded by the blueprint was likely a glitch or an oversight on the part of Activision and Infinity Ward. Sure enough, the latest patch notes confirm that the studio has “fixed an issue where “The Line Breaker” variant of the EBR could out perform the base version of the same weapon”.

Hopefully that’s an end to it, but no doubt the community will remain vigilant for any further bugs that can be construed as sneaky pay-to-win tactics. That’s probably the biggest one, but Infinity Ward has confirmed a massive number of changes and tweaks as part of the latest patch.
