Kmart Is Closing Some Stores Across Australia Due To The Coronavirus

Kmart has decided to close select stores across Australia due to the coronavirus. People have been taking the message to stay at home and, as a result, have ramped up their online shopping habits.

Kmart has decided that because of the declined foot traffic, the best way forward is to close some stores.

A spokesperson has released a statement saying the move will affect stores in Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria.

“Over the past few weeks, we have seen a huge surge in demand for our online services and we want to continue to support our customers with shopping in a way that’s most convenient for them,” the spokeswoman said.

“That’s why we’re doing things a little bit differently at Kmart.

“We’ve made the decision to temporarily convert a few of our stores into order fulfilment sites to help support the growing demand for our online home delivery services.

“Our store teams will continue working instore, as part of this fulfilment team; ensuring that our Kmart customers and communities have easy access to the products they need, at the time they need them most.”

As the message relates, the closure will only be temporary and hopefully when social distancing rules relax then some stores will be able to open.

People who are shopping online will be delighted to know that if you spend more than $45 then delivery is free. It’ll be annoying if you were hoping a dash to Kmart to get essentials to get out of the house, but safety is the top priority.

The spokesperson added: “We recognise that this is a unique time and we are here to support our customers, teams and communities, while we all adjust to this new way of life together.

“Our deepest appreciation and thanks to the local communities for their understanding and support.”

The specific stores haven’t been revealed so you’ll have to speak to your local to know whether they will close.
