£1,500 'Death Stranding' Jacket Doesn't Even Come With A Bridge Baby

There is such a thing as having more money than sense and that seems to be the case with the official jacket that went on sale yesterday and sold out almost immediately. Nothing odd about that – was hugely successful after all. But when you realise the jacket(s) were on sale for £1500 each, you do have to pause for a moment.

I mean, I’m assuming these people aren’t intending on trekking through wide-open areas, carrying ridiculous numbers of packages. Let’s not even mention the fact that we’re barreling towards summer – seriously, who buys a jacket at this time of year? And no, despite some of the promo images, you don’t actually get a baby in a jar with your unseasonal purchase.

Credit: Acronym

The jackets are made by Acronym, which is an expensive label to start off with. According to Kotaku, ‘s art director, Yoji Shinkawa is a huge fan of the brand and was influenced by it when creating the game’s wardrobe. This led to a collaboration between the two companies and the creation of the now-sold-out jacket.

“Turns out Hideo Kojima’s art director, the legendary Yoji Shinkawa, is a longtime Acronym fan and customer,” Acronym co-founder Errolson Hugh tells Highsnobriety. “Back in 2017 one of Yoji’s team reached out to us via email and this led to me visiting the new Kojima Productions studio the next time I went to Tokyo. This was a big deal for me as I have been a huge fan of their work ever since the original Metal Gear games on PS1 and PS2. To find out they were fans of our work as well was kind of surreal to be honest.”

So if you were hoping to snag one of these jackets for yourself, you’re out of luck. It’s unclear whether it was a limited run and if they’ll be back in stock any time soon but on the plus side, at least you’ve saved yourself the money to (hopefully) buy both next-gen consoles and enough – regular – jackets for an entire family.

EA’s New ‘Rocket Arena’ Is More Than Another Battle Royale

BY THEREDNOW STAFF Y’know when games get revealed and they don’t really do it for you, at the first time of asking? I definitely got the impression that, after its spot on this year’s EA Play presentation, that has firmly fallen into that category. What was shown off covered some key bases: this is a […]
