'Mafia: Trilogy' Announced For PlayStation 4, Xbox One, And PC

BY THEREDNOW STAFF

Publisher 2K Games and developer Hangar 13 just dropped a teaser trailer for a new project called , which looks destined for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Google Stadia.

The brief snippet of footage we got promises that more details are coming next week, May 19th, but I think we can probably assume this has something to do with those long-rumoured Mafia series remasters.

What we can tell for sure right now – at least based on the short, very-much-a-teaser trailer below – is that all three games in the crime sim franchise are making a comeback in some form. The footage offers snippets of each game’s protagonist as they talk about what “family” means to them. I’m not sure if this is in-game footage or simply a CG teaser, but and in particular look to have received a substantial face-lift.

Rumours of a Mafia revival first surfaced back in September last year. Publisher 2K Games’ parent company Take-Two Interactive reapplied for the trademarks for the first two games, leading fans to speculate that we’d be seeing them re-released for modern consoles at some point.

Then, earlier this week, the long-dormant Mafia Twitter account posted its first tweet in over two years. It’s rare that the social media account of a slumbering franchise does something for no reason, and sure enough, it looks as if it was teasing this… urm, teaser.

The first was released back in 2002 for PC, Xbox, and PlayStation 2, and is widely considered by many as the best of the bunch. released in 2010 and wasn’t quite as much of a hit… but it had its fans.

Given both of these games are a bit long in the tooth at this point, I’ve no doubt a remaster or remake would do wonders for these aged titles. But just to be clear, again, we won’t learn the extent of what exactlyis offering until next week.

What I find most surprising is that looks set to feature in this project in some way. The last game in the series was only released in 2016 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, so I have no idea if 2K Games is seriously planning to re-release it for the same platforms.

With that said, was incredibly poorly received, in large part thanks to a of bugs that dragged a promising game down. Maybe this was a second chance for Hangar 13 to get it right? I have absolutely no idea, but I’ll be fascinated to learn how fits together on May 19th.

EA’s New ‘Rocket Arena’ Is More Than Another Battle Royale

BY THEREDNOW STAFF Y’know when games get revealed and they don’t really do it for you, at the first time of asking? I definitely got the impression that, after its spot on this year’s EA Play presentation, that has firmly fallen into that category. What was shown off covered some key bases: this is a […]
