PlayStation Designer Teases 'Beautiful' PS5 Special Edition Models

BY THEREDNOW STAFF

Not a fan of the design of the standard PlayStation 5? Don’t sweat it, because it sounds like Sony’s next-gen console will boast a range of special editions designed to drain your wallet dry. The console itself is also apparently more customisable than any of its predecessors. This is according to PlayStation’s vice-president of UX design, Matt MacLaurin.

MacLaurin has been dropping all sorts of intriguing bits of info regarding the PS5 over the last few days on Linkedin. For example, he explained why the console is so much larger than the PlayStation 4, and teased the next-gen machine’s completely overhauled UI.

On the subject of PS5 variants, MacLaurin said that we “can count on even more beautiful (and hopefully radical) special editions” beyond the standard white edition that was revealed last week. That base model, as I’m sure you can remember, was swiftly taken the piss out of. Hopefully any custom models can avoid such an unkind fate.

“Customization with special editions will be beyond anything seen before”, continued MacLaurin, who also said he’d love to see a special edition PS5 inspired by the recently announced .

It shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that Sony is planning to release various limited editions. After all, both the PS4 and Xbox One saw an almost comical number of custom designs launched over the course of their lifespan, and it’s nowhere close to being over. In the past few months alone, we’ve seen a PS4 inspired by , and an Xbox One X inspired by .

As long as people keep spending money on this kind of stuff, Sony and Microsoft will keep it coming. Personally, I hope that a PS5 model alongside . I’m already super excited for the next-gen game, but after seeing BossLogic’s take on what a custom Miles PS5 would look like… well, I desperately need for that to become a real thing.

There are a few other custom designs I wouldn’t mind getting my hands on. For instance, I would much rather own a PS5 that’s all black, if only because I can see that white controller getting super dirty. Hopefully Sony has a few other models to sell at or near launch, but we’ll have to wait and see what the company has planned.

EA’s New ‘Rocket Arena’ Is More Than Another Battle Royale

BY THEREDNOW STAFF Y’know when games get revealed and they don’t really do it for you, at the first time of asking? I definitely got the impression that, after its spot on this year’s EA Play presentation, that has firmly fallen into that category. What was shown off covered some key bases: this is a […]
