Woman Reveals 'Genius' Hack To Help Clipping Her Dog's Nails

A woman has posted her ingenious hack to make clipping her dog’s nails easier.

Anyone who has tried this will be able to tell you that at one time or another, this seemingly quick and simple task can leave you covered in scratches and blood.

Dogs’ nails are usually worn down by running on various hard outdoor surfaces, but now many dogs are spending more time indoors, cutting their nails frequently is more important than ever.

Thankfully, Lindsey Shelton, an ICU nurse from Pismo Beach, California, has shown us what to do to keep your pooch occupied while you’re carrying out the task.

Uploading her trick to TikTok and Instagram, the American nurse covered the top of her head in cling film.

Then, she gets some peanut butter (doesn’t seem to matter what type) and smothers it onto the film on her noggin. She clarifies the peanut butter does not contain Xylitol, an artificial sweetener which is toxic to dogs.

I know what you’re thinking. It’s a proper WTF moment during the video, however if you stick with it, you’ll see Lindsay’s ingenuity in a few seconds.

She says in the video: “I might look like a dork, but I’m about to look like a genius.”

The video then cuts to the 27-year-old kneeling in front of her dog, named Schmidt. She encourages it to lick the peanut butter on her forehead, which keeps it entertained for long enough for Lindsey to carry out the nail clipping.

If you’re short of cling film you can always just chuck the peanut butter on your actual head, if you don’t mind getting dog slobber all over you. Though that would be kind of gross.

Comments have flooded in on Instagram and TikTok, all praising Lindsey for the unconventional hack that will no doubt help many in the future.

The nurse reveals she came up with the idea for the cling film x peanut butter combination after being bored for a few hours.

Explaining her inspiration to POPSUGAR, Lindsey said: “Truly, boredom. I was being silly and my dogs needed their nails trimmed.”

Who knows whether this would work on other pets like cats, but you can always give it a go and see what the results are.

So, if your dog has nails resembling Cardi B but you’re worried about looking like you’d just done a couple rounds with Edward Sissorhands if you trim them, why not give this little trick a go.
