Classic '90s Book Series Animorphs Is Being Turned Into A Movie
BY THEREDNOW STAFF
Pretty much everyone who grew up in the 1990s will have read or at least heard of .
The brilliant book series from K.A. Applegate spanned 54 titles and took us all on a magical journey.
But it looks like that journey is going to get the big screen treatment as the series is going to be made into a movie.
Scholastic, the publishing company that helped spread the stories en masse, has teamed up with producer Erik Feig to turn the book series into a feature film, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Feig told THR: “We couldn’t be more excited to work with Scholastic to adapt , an iconic book series with a wildly unique combination of exciting, witty, outlandish and grounded elements that feel all too relevant for our times.
“We know these books have a deservedly deep bench of passionate fans and we hope to make Katherine Applegate and her co-author, Michael Grant, proud.”
If you haven’t ever read one of these books before then you to get into them.
The premise of the series is simple: Jake, Marco, Cassie, Rachel and Tobias, and one alien, Aximili-Esgarrouth-Isthill (nicknamed Ax) obtain the ability to transform into any animal they touch.
They then use that ability to fight against a secret alien infiltration of Earth by ‘a parasitic race of aliens resembling large slugs’, who can take any living creatures as a host by entering and merging with their brain through the ear canal.
I told you, simple.
The books were turned into a two-season, live-action TV show on Nickelodeon, which ran from 1998 to 2000.
Who knows, this could be the start of a very lengthy movie franchise that will already have an immediate army of fans.
There were also talks in 2015 to get the series into the movie realm, however it seemed like that was as fictional as the universe.
No release date or casting information has been announced and we haven’t been given an insight into what the movie will be about.
Will it be based off the plot that happens in the books or will be be something entirely different but with the same premise? Only time will tell.
