The Corona Arms Is A Virtual Pub Where You Can Drink During Lockdown

In these most bleak of times, our sense of camaraderie and community has been a real source of hope and positivity.

In the UK, we could sadly have a long way to go yet, but no doubt many of us are already missing pubs, all of which were forced to close last Friday; that’s right, it’s only been a week.

But just ’cause we’re all confined to our own homes, doesn’t mean the art of chatting s***e to a random over a bevvy is dead.

Emily Huyton has founded The Corona Arms, a virtual pub where you can break up the monotony of quarantine with a drink or two (or more).

Landlord Emily set it up initially as a way for her to catch up with her mates, but after sharing it on social media, she was inundated with requests to join – and it wouldn’t really be a pub if it wasn’t open to the public now would it?

Speaking to the Metro, Emily said: “Over the last week or so it’s certainly felt as though the world as we know it has been grinding to a halt. Living in London and unable to get back up north to see all my friends, I decided to set up a virtual pub so we could still all get together, have a drink, have a laugh and try and maintain some level of normality.

“The Corona Arms was born with a small group of us but once we shared it on social we were inundated with people asking to join us too.”

Having only just opened its virtual doors, the pub has already held its first weekly pub quiz, raising £145 ($179.14) for homeless charity St George’s Crypt.

Emily added: “Whilst we have all managed to find a way to keep ourselves entertained, we recognise that so many people are really struggling during this time and so we wanted to use the opportunity to raise some money for a local charity.”

To get involved, follow The Corona Arms Instagram page, where the pub will share quizzes that unlock secret links to the conference call on Zoom.
