Morbidly Obese Man Working For First Time In 15 Years At Hospital That Saved His Life

A guy who used to weigh fifty stone and later shed -thirds of his frame weight has returned to work after 15 years – on the health center which saved his life.

Before his dramatic weight reduction, Paul Stevenson couldn’t walk ten steps and slightly left his domestic for 4 years after his weight ballooned.

But he has now commenced operating as a porter on the health facility in which he underwent the gastric surgical operation that put him on the street to a 33-stone weight loss.

Paul says he is grateful on the way to paintings once more after starting at the Royal Derby Hospital.

The 38-year-old become sent on a steep decline after his mom died and was forking out on three or 4 takeaways everyday – which left his weight unreadable on the scales.

In 2016, he had a sleeve gastrectomy on the Royal Derby, in which part of the stomach is eliminated, and added a new diet and exercising regime – which decreased his weight dramatically.

He then went to Holland for an operation to take away his excess pores and skin and now weighs 18 stone.

Since then, he married his lady friend of years and has now started work as a porter at Royal Derby Hospital, in which he started his weight reduction surgery 4 years in the past.

He stated: “This is the primary job I’ve had for about 15 years. Because of the way large and ill I had grow to be, paintings have become not possible.

“I even have always stated that if there has been ever some thing I should do to give back to this medical institution then I would do it, specifically if it concerned supporting sufferers.”

Paul works across the health center – from theatres to day cases to A&E to scanning – and clocks up to 35,000 steps per shift.

He continued: “For someone who couldn’t take extra than 10 steps with out feeling like I was going to disintegrate to doing 37,000 steps on my first 12-hour shift is loopy.

“I notion that I would be aching for days on stop however quite, I’ve been okay. I’m definitely prepared for my bed when I get domestic although.”

The porter admitted that he regularly sees the staff who cared for him during his operation.

He said: “These are a number of the those who noticed me at my worst so I think it’s desirable for them to see in which all in their difficult work has long past. This hospital and the NHS have stored my life.”

Mandy Linnington, Senior Sister on Ward 313, explained how she and her team felt humbled to had been a part of Paul’s recuperation.

She said: “I always sense quite choked once I see him due to the fact I can’t agree with how exclusive he is now as compared to after I met him.

“It’s quite humbling for me as I went to meet Paul in his residence whilst he turned into housebound before he got here to the medical institution.

“So to see him now when he’s going on holiday, is out and about, he has a task and is getting married is clearly superb.”
